Amazing Grace

It’s one of the best real inspirational movies. It is second movie I watched by Terrence Malick (after The Tree of Life, nominated for Oscars 2012). If you want to know how much conviction man could have, how much he could believe, this movie will show it. You can make a difference in your life if you have inner drive. The man called, William battled against the rigid society and abolished the slave trade running in Europe. He spreads the message of love and humanity throughout his life. He spoke against the human discrimination done with race, gender. He taught the society, God created all men at the same level.

Amazing Grace

Movie pictures real socio political scenarios in Europe during the eighteenth century(1700-1800). It was the time, when Europe discovered the race of black humans prospering in African countries. They started using them to carry out laborious work from them. Rich families in Europe imported black men from African countries like Madagascar and forced them for cleaning, sweeping as well as farming. Bullocks in the farm were replaced by these black men. After few years, it become a trend and merchandising activity. Negros were publicly sold out, auctioned in the market. In movie, it is shown that “Around 20,000 slaves were forced to live together in single large room at backyard of Church. They were hold starving with little food. Many were found diseased after staying in unhygienic environment. Many negros died with thirst or after drinking sewage water.”

The movie protagonist, William Wilberforce watched the heinous crime committed by his society publicly and no one is aware that they are in sinful acts every day. He alerted the whole society living along with him. He revolted against the slave trade.

What we can learn?

The real act of human being is to understand the troubles of another one.  Why the God has created us on the earth? We are all working for the God.  It’s amazing grace of God, to be born as a human being. What more to learn ? Only I could say..

You can make a difference, if you think you can.

Titanic

Life is uncertain, the future unknowable…the unthinkable possible.” – James Cameron

Titanic-3D offers the virtual experience to witness the grandiose ship sinking in the sea; forcing 1514 people see their last day in life . The original movie in 1997 fetched 11 academy awards. James Cameron has left the one of the greatest artistic creation in front of us.  I would highly give importance to re-creation of art and presenting the loss of human life.

I watched the movie today 15th April, 2012. Coincidentally, The ship sank exactly 100 years back from now on midnight of 15th April, 1912.

Unfortunate collision of magnificent ship Titanic with iceberg and death of around 1550 people in less than couple of hours is a widely studied disaster in the history of twentieth century.

Why did the Titanic collide with Iceberg?

Titanic ship sank is less than 2 hours and 1500 people died in the frozen water. Was that magnificent ship incapable for long voyage? Didn’t it have the strength to cut the ice? Why the hell iceberg appeared on the path of Titanic? Why Ship riders were not aware of this iceberg? These questions are valid to understand this event.

The path of Titanic’s journey was clearly planned from Hampshire,UK to New York. Ship departed the starting point on 10 April 1912 and was almost going to reach the destination on New York.

The path of Titanic’s journey was clearly planned from Southampton, UK to New York. Ship departed the starting point on 10 April 1912, heading toward New York.  It was around 5 days of voyage. After cutting about 375 miles (600 km) in four days, Ship hit the iceberg at 11:40 PM (GMT- 3) On 14th April,1912 after crossing about and was almost going to reach the destination on New York. Collision caused Titanic’s hull plates to buckle inwards in a number of locations on her starboard side and opened five of her sixteen watertight compartments to the sea. Over the next two and a half hours, the ship gradually filled with water and sank. Collision caused Titanic’s hull plates to buckle inwards in a number of locations on her starboard side and opened five of her sixteen watertight compartments to the sea. Over the next two and a half hours, the ship gradually filled with water and sank. Passengers and some crew members were evacuated in lifeboats, many of which were launched only partly filled. A disproportionate number of men – over 90% of those in Second Class – were left aboard due to a “women and children first” protocol followed by the officers loading the lifeboats. Just before 2:20 am Titanic broke up and sank bow-first with over a thousand people still on board. Those in the water died within minutes from hypothermia caused by immersion in the freezing ocean. The 710 survivors were taken aboard from the lifeboats by RMS Carpathia a few hours later.

The path of Titanic, Path of Iceberg and collision spot is also given in the below map.

Path of Titanic

Why did iceberg appear on the way of Titanic?

As it was a winter season, sea water was almost freezing at the 0 degree temperature. At some places see comprised of layer of ice at the top and water below it.

Iceberg is huge block of ice that floats on the water. It is half immersed below the water level. So, No one can predict the size and shape from the ship. It drifts with the flow of water. Icebergs are usually formed nearby North Pole region, when they start melting; partially melt blocks, starts drifting with the flow of river. Later they enter the into Atlantic Ocean and reside somewhere at steady place. They only melt in the summer when the temperature rises.

Iceberge with which titanic collided was separated from the North Pole region. The path of Titanic is given in the map.

The appearance of iceberg was unpredictable. The shape and size was also unpredictable. During the night, sky was overcast ed so; no one could realize the presence of iceberg.

Ship had already running high speed in sea water. When captain of Ship saw the iceberg, it had gained high acceleration and was not able to reduce the speed and stop quickly.

Movie Iron Lady
director Phyllida Lloyd
Actors Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent and Richard E. Grant
Awards  Best Actress in Oscars

Movie shows the biographical glimpses from the life of Margaret Thatcher. Meryl Streep acts as Thatcher. She has won Academy Award in category Best Actress. Movie is very inspirational, full of expression. It is somewhat tragic as it shows the mentally suffering old lady who was former PM of UK. Movie expresses the bold ideology and principles by Margaret Thatcher.

Iron Lady

Iron Lady

One very old lady is searching for the bottle of milk through different cupboards in the retail shop. She picks up one and reaches the counter to pay the amount. She peeps into the newspaper on the table “Terror in the Hotel.” she looks scared and confused while reading the heading. No one is concerned about this wrinkle faced woman, but the same lady has marked her name in history as most influential and powerful women in 20th century. She is the first and only lady prime minister of UK.  Movie starts with this incidence.

Margaret returns home and finds that there are bombings in the city and she is not allowed to come out of the house due to safety reasons. Due to her old age, no one is concerned about her opinions and thoughts.  She is suffering dementia and many mental problems. She cannot think properly, she cannot wear her clothes on her own.  She stands behind the door and tries to listen to the conversation going inside home. She tries to understand and analyze what is going around. It feels piteous to see the old age problem suffered by her. Her daughters are nearby but not always to care about her.  Someone asks about her time. She answers-“My youth was the days of trying to do something. Now it’s about trying to be someone.

She has been given her few autobiographies for her signature. She starts scribbling here autographs on the first page of stack of books. She remembers all her life. The whole life stands in front of her.  It is a flashback of many incidences in life. Biography of Iron Lady starts here…

She has born in middle class family. In childhood, she used to work in grocery store owned by her father. Girls walking on the road teased her while working in the shop. After this she progressed in all her activities.

Young Margaret Thatcher

Young Margaret Thatcher

Movie shows most notable moments in her life.  She remembers the day in restaurant when Dennis proposes her. ‘Margaret. Will you marry me?’ She turns very emotional and answers, “Yes. Yes. I love you so much. But I will never be one of those women, who sit so silent and pretty on the husband or remote and alone in the kitchen doing washing up for that matter.  One’s life must matter.. Beyond all Cooking, Cleaning and Children. Life must means more than that. I cannot die washing up the teacups.’ Answer expresses all vision and ideals of a life.

She campaigned elections with Labor party. She thought it was the required. She once said to her husband ‘These men don’t have guts. Someone has to come up to restore the economy, because nation was suffering with many problems like poverty, unemployment, terrorism.’ She enters the politics at very young age. In the every of meetings she emphasized on the actions. We must just get up and do. If any something wrong, we should get up and do something rather than being silent. “She orders everyone to restore the nation at good position. She tells saving the economy of nation is ‘housekeeping’ for the woman like me.”

When Margaret entered the Parliament, she was invited by calling, “Welcome to the man house” as she was the only single lady in the large group of men, but she was able to think herself more able than men.  In the discussion, she seems aggressive and short tempered. Men shout at her saying “Lady Screeches” She boldly answers, “You all should listen what I am saying rather than how I am saying.

She has taken many bold steps after becoming Prime Minister of UK. For example, She wages a war when Falkland Islands were taken by Argentina.  US President Ronald Reagan asks her the reason for waging the war. She reminds him the historical context  “Just like Hawaii. I imagine. In 1941, When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor; Did America went Capen Hand for peaceful negotiations of terms.  Islands were thousands kilometers away from US. No. No. We will stand on principles or will not stand at all. I have done battle every single day of my life and many men have underestimated me before. This will think on to do the same? But they will rue the day.

In the old days, she is consulted by her family doctor. She spoke to her about personal problems. Her husband had left her years and she is fighting the battle single handedly.  She sleeps only 5 hours every day. She needed to remain conscious continuously. When doctors worries asking what people of our nation think about your lonely life, She answer people only feel, they don’t think at all. During the discussion, she teaches a very beautiful quote to doctor.“What are our thoughts become our actions, What are our actions becomes our habit, What is our habit become our characters, And what is our character becomes our destiny.

At the end of movie, when her husband died… She whines and cries out after his departure. Movie pictures very painful moments.  Iron Lady remains all alone.

War Horse

March 2, 2012 Leave a comment

It is a story of a horse that was tested by war. As per my, it is the best movie directed by Steven Spielberg till date. The splendid horse pictured in the movie fought and survived through the First World War. He successfully escaped through the death trap. The horse was seized from the owner and made to fight in the war. War resulted in huge number of deaths, destruction and casualties. This horse pulled heavy artillery in the war, continued fighting without food for a longest duration of time, overcame many dangers in its life.
Jeremy Irvine in War Horse
At the end of movie, this horse ran treacherous paths in search of freedom. Artillery was chasing it, so as there was no way to escape. Horse courageously plunged over the artillery and saved the life. Again in further, as much it ran and struggled, more complexly trapped in wires and fences. When it was trapped and had no hopes to escape, two soldiers cut the fences and made way from the death. Horse preserved longest duration inside dirt because. So, it was a war horse.

It is a brilliant story of inspiration and hope!

The Decendants

The movie is directed by Alexander Payne and it is based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings with the same name.

Officially ‘The descendants’ is a comedy drama. In real, it is a serious and thoughtful movie. We all are set to watch the protagonist facing unpredictable challenges. Its George Clooney nominated for Best Actor Academy award 2012. He is acting as a Matt King – a rich and workaholic lawyer, father of two girls. His defiant indulgent wife catches in accident while motor-boat riding that leads her in coma. How Matt tries to set his house in order, nurture his daughters? How he tries to fill the absence of his wife? To know these answers, you should watch the movie. Among the chaos and uncertainties in life, Matt stands like an oak to challenge every problem in front of him. He shows confidence and courage single handedly. Behind his every faithful act, it shows a true love for her wife, irrespective of her painful disappointment.

Movie plot is filmed in the Hawaii Island. It is really awesome to watch Hawaii covered with lush green trees, cold atmosphere and beautiful beaches. Long edge of Hawaii beach, open blue sky and tides hitting the shore incessantly shows the continuity of life where there is no place for difficulties. It’s matter of continuous change.  Movie starts with saying; Hawaii is a paradise where different types of people survive there.

Movie Plot:

The Matt King, a rich lawyer was living happy life with his wife and two daughters. Matt used to deal with real estate agents. He was very hard working and was unable to give time for his family. Knowing this, one day He took his family on Hawaii Island for a vacation. On one unfortunate day, his wife was boating along the Hawaii beach. She caught in an accident due to motor failure. Accident threw her into permanent coma.  It’s an unpredictable crisis over Matt’s family. His both daughters were badly affected by this accident. It was the Matt, who thought to multiply his courage in danger. He told himself, “As soon as my wife awakes, I would do whatever she wants. I would take her to the place where she desires.” He was hoping for the best.  Next day, doctor said, she failed to show the consciousness. Her eyes and hands are not showing any movement. All efforts from our side are failed. There are very less chances to bring the consciousness into her. Doctor asked him to get ready for the situation, because his wife has very few days or maximum couple of weeks.  This made him alert. He tried to cover the absence of mother for his two daughters. He told himself as a backup parent.

He has two daughters- Scotty, 10 and Alex, 17. After Elizabeth’s accident, Scotty found doing foul behavior with her classmates. She started telling about the family crisis in the school. Couple of complaints received to Matt telling her mischievous behavior is spoiling other kids in the school. Matt had to visit the house of Scotty’s friend to apologize for her mistake. Elder daughter, Alex, had just entered in her teens. She had turned a drug addict and found heavily drunk many times with her boy friend. Reckless behavior of Alex was also affecting the younger daughter. Matt understood that this is the critical time. Both of his kids were not able to face the crisis. Only he had to look after both of them.

One day, Matt brings his elder daughter when she was heavily drunk and turned unconscious. On the next day he tried to ask her to abandon all this addiction and to forget the past fights between her and mother. Alex revealed, ‘Her mother is cheating her father. She had an affair with another man.’ It was a second painful shock to Matt, but he still loves her from the heart. He and his elder daughter set off the target to know about the person whom his wife liked. He runs and runs to know about the man, called Brian Seer – another real estate agent with whom her wife fell in love.

One day, while jogging early morning along the shore, Brian passes by him. He follows him hideously and reaches the hotel room where Brian enters. On that day he comes on the beach to relax and collects all the information about Brian from his wife. His elder daughter Alex accompanies Matt to trace all the information about Brian.

As his wife, Elizabeth has very few days left, it was required to host the family condolence event when all her relative can come and say good bye to her. In her absence, Matt had to take one of the major decisions in his life. Grandparents of Matt had bequeathed 25,000 areas of Hawaii land to his family. His land is spread along the Hawaii beach. Many industrialists are urging him to sell the land for construction of hotels and residential buildings. The selling of this land was going to give him huge sum of money.  Matt feels very absence of his wife in taking this decision. He plans to sell the land, but just before signing the papers, he listens to his heart and refuses to sell the land. He replies audaciously, “I am the sole owner of land that is inherited from the past generation and will hold the responsibility to protect the land until I am alive.”

Matt had invited many of his and Elizabeth’s relatives to meet and say adieu to her.  Matt took a kiss of the corpse uttering, ‘I love you. You are my love as well as pain.’ He had promised her to take responsibility to bring up her both the kids.  Movie ends when Matt leaves the ashes in the sea. All of them have accepted the change, where Elizabeth is no more, but Matt’s love for her is eternal.  Now, all of them have embraced the change.

The Tree of Life

Director & Writer Terrence Malick
Actors Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain
Oscar Nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography

The Tree of Life” is the philosophical and biological picturesque by Terrence Malick.  I’ve watched this movie long back and thought to write about it knowing it received 3 Academy award nominations in categories Best picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography. The name, ‘Tree of life’ stands for the apple tree from the Bible. Adam and eve ate the forbidden fruit and made the human race immortal. The movie explores the evolution of life on the earth that leads us to teach the purpose of our presence.

The Tree Of Life

The movie protagonist, Jack recalls his childhood memories of innocence and nurturing by his parent.  Brad Pitt acts as his father.  He remained nostalgic about his childhood in Texas. He was brought up in the middle class family lived in the home surrounded by Natural beauties in Texas. Jack tries to find the true meaning for his life in this modern world. His thoughts travel from the origin of life of the earth.

He remembers, his mother(Jessica Chastain) explains, “There are two ways in life, the way of nature and the way of grace. Chose one way, other will follow.”  She elaborates, “Grace doesn’t try to please it, it accepts insults and injuries.  Nature only wants to please itself, to lord over others, to have its way.”  Life is a process of deciding which of these paths to follow.  Jack’s mother embodies the way of grace, while his father embodies the way of nature. His father(Brad Pitt) says, “One day, His son will become strong and his own man. He will be able to fight life on his own. He will fall down and weep and understand.”

Life of human being is much similar to other animal. The man endowed bigger brain. It is the only fact that made the huge different in his life style.

Continuous thoughts made Jack to trace the root of everything i.e. root of universe. Bing bangs Theory that explains the galaxies and system of start, comets in motion.  Explosion of large mass generated the solar system.

The beautiful blue planet Earth has an essence of life. The most intelligent species that prospered on the earth is Human being. The movie shows the evolution of life that ends up with man. Life started with aquatic creatures, having tentacles that keeping them moving in water.  These creatures struggled to come out of water. Few crawled further between the dense green forest and turbulent running rivers. Serpents treading on surface of earth formed different groups having different capabilities. Few light weight lives received wings to fly in the sky. Few bodies rapidly grew forming mammoth like animals which were dinosaurs, elephant. The species that couldn’t come out of water remained powerful in their habitat in the form of magnificent sharks and octopus.  There were also animals with four limbs that used to jump around the branches of trees. These monkeys later could able to slouch over back limbs and front limbs were required to different sort of work. Chimpanzees later evolved in human being. All this transformation took billions of years.  If you watch, every life pictured in the movie has sympathy for their own race, tried to protect themselves. Every life protected their kids from danger. So, every life is guided by morals.

The stratosphere helps the growth of life. All this is creation of God. He lives in every human being. Devils show there in dangers. Movie has pictured the rise of human being, who is most dominating and intelligent. Later this man turned predator of animal, flora and fauna on the planet. In twenty first century, life of human being is suffering with many problems. Basic needs of food, shelter are scantily availed. Man has build sky rocketing buildings to occupy excessive fellow beings. Future generations are prone to suffer problems like food safety, pollution, water scarcity. In such time God is the only who could help us, guide us.  HE should teach us the better way of life.

It amazed me lot, but very small role of Churchill. He appears in movie to support stammering King for his speech to the nation.

King George VI, Emperor of England has to broadcast a speech to the nation awhile country is under the difficult time of Second World War. King has voice disorder of stammering. So, Words cannot come out of his mouth. He stammers while trying to speak. King takes help of Lionel Logue, an Australian speech therapist. ‘King’s speech’ is a story of friendship between King George VI and Lionel, who brought back King’s voice and courage.

Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush play roles of King George VI and speech therapist respectively. This movie is nominated for 12 Oscar nominations and has won four major awards in categories of Best Picture, Best director, Best Actor, and best original screenplay. What to watch in the movie??

Friendship between King George VI and his voice therapist. How common man brings back the voice and courage of King.– Royal Buckingham palace and its magnificence-Royal preparation of King’s speech while King’s has no clear voice – King is stammering when whole nation is listening to every syllable of King’s voice – Winston Churchill and his supporting words to King George VI-Silent music tunes piano that express sorrows of King-Supporting wife of a King.

Supporting wife Queen of King George VI

Prince Albert, second son of King George V, later became King George VI.  He is called as ‘Bertie’ by his family and wife. In one closing ceremony of British Empire exhibition, audience shocked with awe while listening stammering voice of Prince.  So many medical treatments were done, but no cure. One physician has asked Prince to hold the marbles in mouth and read the book. It enrages the King and he leaves from the place frustratingly. At last, royal family is suggested to consult one Australian speech therapist, Lionel Logue, who is a failed actor in his career.

Now, Voice treatment starts under the guidance of Lionel. He tries to tap the root of King’s illness by asking personal information. He asks Prince to pronounce his . King utters ‘Highe..ly Magesty’. He forces to tell his full Christian name. King refuses with anger.

King roars, “I am not here to discuss personal matters.”

“Then, Why are you here.”

“Because, Bloody I stammers.”

After this Lionel asks patiently King to read the Shakespeare’s ‘To be, or not to be’ soliloquy from Hamlet. King has already received treatments under many other therapists came and went, no surety of success. It was sheer frustration expressed by King. To avoid King sensing his own blurred voice, Lionel advises king to listen to music while reading the ‘Hamlet’. At the end of first treatment, Lionel tells he has been completely stammered. Prince leaves with rage from there along with the recorded disc of Gramophone.

Winston Churchill, The Greatest Statesman

1940, Winston Churchill, ordered BBC to cut stammers and pauses out of the King's speech

After the address to nation on Christmas day, King George V explained Bertie about the importance of royal broadcasting to nation. Bertie is really getting frustrated days and night. He has been addicted to smoking under this voice disorder. One night, he listens his own recorded lines of ‘To be, or not to be.’ He founds his voice is very clear. King again returns to Lionel with much optimism for the treatment. Lionel tries to invoke the past which has given him the stammering voice. Prince expresses he has faced tremendous pressure during childhood from his father and elder brother. He asks prince about root of all his illness. Prince tries to recall the childhood memories. His Elder brother David has made him cry many times to cry by bothering. Father has always ignored the crying prince. Lionel is trying to relax him by making him share tragic past in the childhood. Further, they start bread control, muscle relaxation exercise. All those exercises look funny, but Colin Firth’s acting in the role of stammering prince is incredible. King’s wife, Princes is very very supportive and shown encouraging. She shown crying with stammering King saying, “My husband stammers with beautiful voice..

King George V died in 1936, and throne of King is passed to David, Bertie’s elder brother, but David has planned to marry one American divorcee. Prince Albert(Bertie) pleads David saying the nation would not accept King marrying to one divorcee. David teases prince with his stammering voice, ‘B..B..B..Bertie’ But finally David avoids marrying the divorcee. Now, Bertie bequeaths the Royal throne and he understands the importance of his voice and speech. Bertie and princess again go to Lionel and King struggles to retain his original voice.

To make the treatment effective, Lionel tries to invoke his anger by sitting on the Royal Chair of King Edward. At this time, a long confrontation starts between them. Now, King realizes that he has recovered his most of the voice.
In 1939, England has waged war against Germany. King and their child watches the Hitlor’s burning speech in the audience. Winston Churchill  says, “Now, When Germany will come, Nation needs a King, who stands behind everyone.” This brings real historical background to this story. King has planned to give a speech to nation through radio broadcasting.

During the whole speech, Lionel stood with King to support and guide him. Stammering voice of Prince at the start of movie is now clear, clean voice of King. Movie ends with unending friendship between Lionel and King George. Few lines at the end of movie tells that Lionel remained always real friend of king and he also received honor of ‘Commander of Royal order’ in 1944.

True Grit

Movie: True Grit
Director: Joel & Ethan Coen (Coen Brothers)
Starrings: Jeff Bridges( as Rooster Cogburn),
Matt Damon(as Texas Ranger Mr. LaBoeuf)
Josh Brolin(as Tom Chaney)
Hailee Steinfeld (as fourteen year old Mattie Ross)
Barry Pepper(as Net Pepper)
Movie ‘True Grit’ is based on short novella by Charles Portis.
Movie is nominated for ten Academy Awards.

‘True Grit’ means wisdom, determination, strength of mind, having gut to reach the mission.

The film ‘True Grit’ is a story is narrated by the adult Mattie Ross at her 40. She explains few days of adventure before twenty five years back, when her father was murdered by one of his hired hands, Tom Chaney. Chaney made off with her father’s horses and two of his California gold pieces. While collecting her father’s body, Mattie (played as a 14-year-old by Hailee Steinfeld) inquires about hiring a Deputy U.S. Marshal to track down Chaney. She is given three recommendations, but chooses to hire Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), because he is described as the most merciless. He repeatedly rebuffs her attempts to hire him.

Hailee Steinfeld

Meanwhile, at the boarding house where she is staying, Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) arrives on the trail of Chaney. LaBoeuf has been pursuing him for several months over a murder in Texas. He proposes to Mattie that they should team up with Cogburn, since the Marshal knows the Choctaw terrain where Chaney is hiding, while LaBoeuf knows how the man is most likely to behave. Mattie rejects LaBoeuf’s offer, partially because he would take Chaney back to Texas to be hanged for the prior murder, instead of her father’s. After finally securing Cogburn’s services, Mattie is instructed to meet him the following morning to begin the search for Chaney, though instead of meeting Mattie, Cogburn leaves a note telling her to go home while he goes to apprehend Chaney.

After she is refused passage on the river ferry that conveyed Cogburn and LaBoeuf, Mattie rides into the water and is pulled across by her swimming horse. On the far side, she learns that the two men have agreed to split the Texas reward for Chaney. Accusing him of fraud, Mattie threatens to have Cogburn arrested for breaking their agreement, which specified that she must accompany him on the manhunt. Reluctantly, he allows Mattie to come along. After a disagreement, LaBoeuf sets off on his own in search of Chaney. Eventually, Mattie and Cogburn come across an isolated shack, where two outlaws (Paul Rae and Domhnall Gleeson) are staying. After they turn on each other, Cogburn kills the older outlaw, and as the younger one is dying, he explains that “Lucky” Ned Pepper (Barry Pepper) and his gang were planning on returning to the shack later that night. Believing Chaney to be riding with Pepper’s gang, Cogburn and Mattie lie in wait for the gang.

However, LaBoeuf rides up to the shack ahead of the gang. When the gang arrives, they lasso LaBoeuf and drag him behind a horse. Cogburn opens fire from his hiding spot, killing three members of the gang and accidentally wounding LaBoeuf. During the night, Cogburn drinks a great deal of whiskey and is severely drunk the next morning. The following night, he and LaBoeuf argue again, and LaBoeuf departs once more. The next morning, as Mattie draws water at the river, she encounters Chaney, who is watering the gang’s horses. She draws her father’s pistol and shoots him. The pistol misfires as she tries to finish him off, and he drags her back to the gang. Ned uses Mattie as a hostage to force Cogburn to ride off. Though Mattie is initially hostile to Ned, she calms down when he promises he “doesn’t hurt children” and he seems to show respect for her. Not having enough horses for everyone, Ned leaves Mattie with Chaney, telling him that he will send a horse for him later. He orders Chaney not to harm Mattie and to drop her off in safe, colonized lands afterwards.

Once alone, Chaney disobeys Ned and attacks Mattie; LaBoeuf appears and knocks Chaney out with his rifle butt, explaining that when he heard the shots in the morning, he rode back and encountered Cogburn, who devised a plan. LaBoeuf and Mattie watch from their distant perch as Cogburn takes on the four remaining members of Ned’s gang. Although one escapes, Cogburn kills two of them, and mortally wounds Ned before his own horse is shot out from under him. As the dying Ned is about to kill Cogburn, LaBoeuf shoots and kills Ned, impressing Mattie with his ability as a marksman. Chaney comes to and attacks LaBoeuf. Mattie grabs LaBoeuf’s rifle and kills Chaney, but the recoil knocks her back into an old mineshaft, where she unwittingly disturbs a ball of snakes. She is bitten before Cogburn can rescue her. Cogburn and Mattie leave the wounded but stable LaBoeuf at the mine with the promise they will send help, and Cogburn rides through the night to get Mattie to a doctor, arriving just in time.

Twenty-five years later, Mattie – now 40 and with only one arm, the result of an amputation necessitated by gangrene from the snakebite – receives an invitation from Cogburn to meet him at a traveling Wild West show with which he is performing. When she arrives at the site, she learns that Cogburn died three days earlier. She has his body moved into her family plot, and the film ends with her standing over his grave and pondering how time catches up with everyone.

83rd Academy awards winners are declared in auspicious program in Kodak theatre of Hollywood, California. I watched live show of 83rd academy awards on star movies. ‘Vodaphone 3G presents 83rd Academy Awards, Live & Exclusive’.
King’s Speech and Inception bagged four Oscars each. I would love to publish the whole list of nominations and winners. In all below nomination, Winner is typed in bold. I have watched Inception,127 hours before a month back, but I would like to watch few other best movies also. A R Rahman couldn’t win any prize for his music in 127 hours. but, I guess, Music and song given for this movie was really well. Danny Boyle has expressed at Oscar Program that, “A R Rahman is genious. He can express any type of feeling and moments in life with music. He has given his best in ‘slumdog millionaire’.” No, Indian movie has been nominated for Oscar after Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Lagan’ in 2002. Before that, Movie Elizabeth directed by Shekhar Kapur has been nominated for seven academy awards and won Oscar for Best Makeup category.
